Unequal Terms

In the light of setting sun, Remento desperately wanted Shiya. But Shiya had other plans; only on her terms, and after a little game of 'catch the flying mare.'

Final Update: I think I have a max of roughly 15 hour attention span for a picture. Much longer after that I really start to get lazy with it and am ready for it to be done. As much as I enjoyed the first 15 hours of this, towards the end I was done. lol Sorry for the lack of details in the wings, I wanted it to be so much more but just didn't have it in me. Even took a break and didn't work on it much last night but instead did the Doberman picture. Anyway, I still like mostly how it came out.

Update: Spent about another 5 hours on this today. Fixed the grass, didn't like how it was. Shaded Reme, and colored him doing my best to make him a part of the background. I think I got it as good as grayscale will allow. I feel stuck with grayscale because it's one of the only ways I can shade well and know I'll maintain good shading when it comes to horses with markings (shiya). But anyway, probably will finish it by tomorrow night.

Update 2: Roughly 7 hours spent on this today. Time to take a break and save the hardest part for tomorrow...making the horses "fit" into the background and not just look like cartoons. Realism don't fail me now!

Update: The beauty of a reference-so much better than the last. Sorry I'm spoiling it by posting WIPs, but I need breaks every now and then. I've been at this for off and on, 6 hours today. o.O Good thing my house is already cleaned and tightly, or else nothing would have gotten done today. And good thing I have George Martin's A Dance with Dragon as an audio book or else my attention span would be that much shorter.

The newest work in progress. This will be my breeding image for Remento 128 x SDS Shiya 98 but I'm afraid it might not be finished for a few more days. It's taking me a while to just do the lines and I plan on trying to redeem myself with the background on this one. I do have a reference laied out that I'll pretty much use spot on, or at least try. The wings are still a rough draft.
