Part 2: Viewing

Too tired to proof read tonight-read at your own risk-will edit in the morning.

Helina walked through the woods all through the night, her inner heat keeping her body warm and her mind at peace. She searched for the owner of the voice inside her head. She hadn't heard it since even though she has tried to make contact herself many times. To entertain herself as she traveled, Helina noted her surroundings and how unfamiliar it all was. She was still very confused by this place and still have no memory of how she got here or where she came from. Walking and her fire were the only things that kept her from panicking again. That and the calming feeling the voice had washed over her.

After walking all through the night, the sky began to gray and lighten with the onset of dawn. Helina was thrilled the darkest was receding, leaving the landscape in a friendly warm glow. The tree began to thin and decrease in size, giving way to more open spaces. Eventually she came to the end of the forest. She stopped on it's edge, unsure of what to do next. The chilly morning air couldn't reach her through her heated body but she shivered anyway with anxiety and anticipation of the unknown.

Helina stepped out into a flat snowy field as the first rays of sun spilled over the horizon. As far as she could see, the only thing before her was a blanket of snow with the occasional outcropping of trees. She wished she could get a high ground view of what might lay father over the fields. Suddenly Helina felt a slight tremor beneath her hooves and before she could even think about running, the ground under head rose up with her on top creating a high plateau with her as it's peak. It all happened within seconds, leaving Helina astonishes and flaring her nostrils at the top of the newly formed mound at the forests edge. Eyes wide, Helina thought that she was suddenly too high and realized she had a newly acquired fear of heights. With that thought, the mound beneath her gently began to drift back into the earth, bringing Helina down with it. In aw, she tested the area around her with her hoof and decided it was stable ground to walk. She took a few steps forward, holding the thought of the earth in her mind and feeling it's solid form under her.

Then she asked it to lift her again but this time more slowly and not so high. It responded easily, creating a small rise under her, no more than 3 feet up, lifting her easily. Snorting, Helina giggled at this new found ability. All she had to do was form an image of the ground in her mind, hold it there and ask it to change and it would! Helina was so thrilled with her new discovery that she did not notice she wasn't alone.

The giant white lion had been watching Helina from the start. His mental connection with her was stronger than distance or darkness and was never broken. When they fell to the earth and Helina was knocked unconscious, he knew he had to find her though he didn't know how far away he had landed from her. When she awoke though, he found her mind to be a swirling black fog, untouchable by his connection. Her emotions flooded him as she woke in panic and his uselessness to help her pained him. When she began her mad dash through the darkness the night before, the lion knew she could no longer hear him no matter how hard he tried and that he must get to her as soon as possible to keep her from hurting herself in this foreign world. Her sheer terror hurt him so deeply that he summed up all of his mental energy and send out one hard desperate message to her as an attempt to help her. He had no way of knowing if the message got through and the effect of sending it through the black fog of her mind that was now their connection left him exhausted, forcing him into a deep sleep for hours.

When he finally woke he instantly felt Helina was much calmer, if not curious about her new world and that she was on the move. He forced himself to his feet to find her and only a few hours later he came on his whimsical little filly playing with her powers in the field. He smiled to himself at her innocence as she told the earth to move under her. He tried calling to her mind again but was only met with disappointment and the same darkness there. Finally after a moment, he walked forward until she noticed him.

Helina stopped her connection with the earth, letting fall abruptly away. She stood staring at the lion as she calmly approached her, not knowing if she should run or hide, or just stay. She decided to stand still, for that was all her legs would do anyway. He continued his advance and just when he was a few feet away he stopped. His golden eyes stared into her own and deep in those eyes she felt a vague awareness of knowing. Helina didn't understand how this giant beast knew her but she no longer felt the urge to flee from him. She tentatively reached out her muzzle and breathed softly in his warm scent. Before she could pull her nose back, he licked her. She jerked back in shock but knew her alarm wasn't needed. She knew this was the owner of the voice she had heard. Her calming spirit that had helped her find the fire inside. She moved towards him and nuzzled her face into his soft iridescent mane allowing his smell to wash over her, taking all her fears away.

When the lion turned and began walking south, Helina followed without hesitation like a puppy on a leash, happy to finally feel safe in this unknown world they had fallen to.
